Join us and learn how to create your own custom embroidery designs. The purpose of this retreat is to combine leisure and digitizing for the ultimate vacation experience. Throughout this retreat, alongside lounging in the pool and optional excursions, you’ll continuously learn new digitizing skills that’ll take your embroidery to the next level. With a maximum class size of only 16 people and 2 knowledgeable instructors, your guaranteed to learn something whether you’re a beginner or more advanced in embroidery digitizing. If you want to have fun while learning how to digitize, this retreat is for you!

What Will I Learn?
Master Digitizer John Deer will teach you the age-old time tested theory behind digitizing an embroidery design which he learnt over 30 years ago, when he apprenticed to become a Schiffli Master puncher. Once you understand and hold the foundation of theory behind embroidery digitizing, John and Sue will hold your hand step-by-step teaching you how to apply it to modern day digitizing software. You’ll learn how and when to properly use and control the 3 primary stitch types, and eventually move into skills requiring more technique and artistic merit such as using creative thread blending.

- Monday (Feb 5th): Digitizing Class – Foundational Theory & Rules for Stitch Types, Digitizing first design focused on Sketch-work
- Tuesday (Feb. 6th): Digitizing Class – Second Design using Manual Pathing with Satin Stitch, Third Design utilizing Multi-color Artistic Merit
- Wednesday (Feb 7th): Digitizing Class from 9am-12am (half day) – Fourth Design utilizing Fill Stitches with Satin Outlines
- Thursday (Feb 8th): Optional Excursions (not included)
- Friday (Feb 9th): Optional Excursions (not included)

As a 3rd generation embroidery guru, John Deer is one of North Americas leading experts on digitizing and embroidery for the corporate and home marketplace. John has an extremely unique history in the embroidery digitizing industry as he is one of the last remaining Schiffli Masters. John learned and apprenticed under Swiss Schiffli Master Digitizers (then known as “punchers”) over 30 years ago, before computers even entered the digitizing world. Since then, he has won 30 separate digitizing awards and wrote the book on digitizing called “Digitizing Made Easy” which has sold over 40,000 copies. John has produced 29 instructional and educational “step-by-step how to” DVD’s, which apply to embroidery enthusiasts of all levels. He has given hundreds of workshops and seminars all over the world on digitizing, embroidery techniques and how to make money with embroidery. Given John’s unique training, family history, and vast embroidery knowledge, he is truly a master embroidery digitizer.
Sue Brown has been working with embroidery and digitizing embroidery for more than 15 years creating and producing embroidered patches for customers worldwide in the thriving patch business she runs with her husband Don. Having sewn out thousands of embroidery patches, written hundreds of embroidery blog posts, and created multiple digitizing video lessons, Sue was a perfect fit for the Digitizing Made Easy team. Sue joined the Digitizing Made Easy in mid 2016.
